Communication via COM (USB)

Use this setting to connect a PLC via the USB port or COM port. The USB port is used as virtual serial port and gets a separate COM port number.

  1. Online > Communication parameters...

    The Communication settings dialog appears.

  2. Select COM (USB) under Connection type
  3. Specify the following communication parameters of your computer:
    • Port

      All available COM devices from Windows device manager are listed here. Select the port connected to the desired PLC.

    • Baud rate

      Depending on the PLC, select a baud rate between 1200 and 115200bit/s for communication between PLC and PC. Default setting: 9600 bit/s

    • Data length

      Select either 7 or 8 bits. Default setting: 8 bits

    • Stop bits

      Select either 1 or 2 bits. Default setting: 1 bit

    • Parity

      Select from None, Odd or Even. Default setting: Odd

    • Timeout

      Set a timeout from 0 to 60s to connect to the PLC. Default setting: 5s

    • Automatic communication settings

      The software will automatically find matching communication settings.

      NOTE
      Disabled parameters will be excluded from automatic configuration.

      Default setting: all check boxes are activated

  4. OK
  5. Online > Online mode

    The connection will be established.
