Communication via Ethernet

You need to be familiar with IP addresses, ET-LAN units and Ethernet before using this connection.

Set or change the following parameters if necessary and make sure you set the same settings on your computer.

  1. Online > Communication parameters...

    The Communication settings dialog appears.

  2. Select Ethernet under Connection type
  3. Specify the following communication parameters of your computer:
    • Destination settings
      • Configuration name

Enter a configuration name up to 38 characters long. This name is used for the list of saved configurations.

      • IP address

Do not change the default value, if you cannot find the IP address.

        Search

Search a PLC in the same network. If you select a PLC that has already been found, the IP addresses and port numbers are entered automatically.

Enter the IP address manually if the PLC has a global IP address and/or is in a different network than the PC.

      • Port number

Specify an allowed value in decimal format (default: 0). The port number for the IP address must be unique, i.e. it cannot be used twice on your computer.

  4. If necessary, make the required settings under Options
    • Use ET-LAN unit

Check the checkbox when you use the ET-LAN unit.

Do not check the checkbox when using the Ethernet-RS232C converter, etc., for example.

      • PC settings
        • Port number

Specify an allowed value in decimal format (default: 1025).

        • Station number (ET-LAN)

Specify an allowed value in decimal format (default: 64). Specify a station number different from the destination station number (PLC) that follows.

(If no ET-LAN unit is used, the setting under Station number (ET-LAN) is ignored.)

      • Destination settings
        • Station number (C-NET/ET-LAN)

Specify a value between 1 and 64 in decimal format (default: 1). Specify a station number different from the computer’s station number above. (If no ET-LAN unit is used, the setting under Station number (ET-LAN) is ignored.)

      • Timeout settings
        • Communication timeout (s)

Specify a value between 1 and 950 seconds (default: 8 for new projects, 15 after initialization).

        • Connection timeout (s)

Specify a value between 1 and 180 seconds (default: 4 for new projects, 60 after initialization).

  5. OK
  6. Online > Online mode

    The connection will be established.
