PLC network connection

The parameters for a connection to a PLC network such as MEWNET-H, MEWNET-P, MEWNET-W, or C-NET are set in the Specify station number dialog box. You need to specify which one of the PLCs on the network you want to access from the computer. You can also access a PLC on a multi-layer network.

With Online > Network parameters... you open the Specify station number dialog where you can set the type of network and parameters that are used to access the PLC.

  1. Online > Network parameters...
  2. Select a network
    • Home

Select this option to access the PLC which is directly connected to the COM port on the computer (without using any network). The station number must be "0 (zero)".

    • C-NET

Select this option to access a PLC on the C-NET network. Select a station number from 1 to 99.

      Note:

All the PLCs on the C-NET must have the same communication parameter settings.

    • Slot No. (MEWNET/ET-LAN)

You have to select a route number if you want to access a PLC on the MEWNET-W, MEWNET-P or ET-LAN network which is linked to the PLC directly connected to the computer. Select a station number from 1 to 63.

      To determine the route:

From the one closest to the CPU Unit, assign numbers to the following link units in ascending order, starting with one:

      • MEWNET-W Link Unit

      • MEWNET-P Link Unit

      • ET-LAN Unit

      • Computer Communication Unit (CCU)

      • Profibus

The route number you should select is the number assigned to the Link Unit.

      Example:

Consider a situation where you have the CPU Unit, MEWNET/ET-LAN Link Unit, I/O Unit, and MEWNET-W Link Unit in that order. The PLC that is directly connected then regards MEWNET/ET-LAN as the first route and MEWNET-W as the second route (the I/O Unit has no route). In this case, to access a PLC on the MEWNET-W network, select [Route 2].

    • MEWNET-H (CPU)

Select this option if you want to access a PLC on the MEWNET-H network which is linked to the PLC directly connected to the computer using the tool port. To set the layer route and relay station, click [Setting]. For more information, see MEWNET-H Settings.

    • MEWNET-H (Link Unit)

Select this option if you want to access a PLC on the MEWNET-H network which is linked to the PLC directly connected to the computer using the RS-232C port on the MEWNET-H Link Unit. To set the layer route and relay station, click [Setting]. For more information, see MEWNET-H Settings.

      Note:

For information on the RS-232C port settings for the MEWNET-H Link Unit, see the hardware manual which came with that unit.

  3. After all the settings are complete, click OK.
  4. Online > Online mode
