To insert elements, you can use:
Shortcuts:
place cursor in grid, and use shortcut for desired element. The new element appears, and it now moves with the cursor. Move element to desired position, and press <Enter> (or single-click left mouse button). A line is drawn to power rail or previous element, if applicable.
Intelligent keys:
place cursor in grid at desired position. Press intelligent key (a numeral 1–9) for desired element.
If an intelligent key is available, the key numeral also appears directly on the icon (in small blue print in lower left-hand corner).
To prevent cursor display errors when you are programming with shortcuts, check the mouse settings in your Control Panel: In the mouse properties dialog, select the Pointer Options tab, and ensure that Display pointer trails is disabled.
